POSITION OVERVIEW SteerBridge Strategies is seeking an experienced Senior Architect/Engineer (CM–SA/E) to support on-site construction management efforts at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. The selected candidate will oversee infrastructure upgrades under the EHRM program, working across design, inspection, coordination, and reporting activities. This is a full-time position focused on high-impact work with federal healthcare infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct daily inspections of site and construction activities; document discrepancies, code violations, and quality issues.
Monitor project schedules and coordinate phased construction activities to minimize disruptions.
Lead engineering analysis and the preparation of plans, specifications, and design packages.
Provide technical oversight across multiple engineering disciplines to ensure code compliance and project standards.
Submit daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports covering completed work, work in progress, and outstanding items.
Use computerized management systems to support document processing, RFI tracking, and material inventory monitoring.
Review design/construction plans, assess site conditions, and recommend technical solutions to unforeseen issues.
Conduct inspections of healthcare and administrative facilities to assess condition and identify deficiencies.
Ensure knowledge and application of federal, state, and local building codes, as well as VA-specific requirements.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide on-site guidance to diverse personnel.
Maintain clear communication and documentation throughout the life of the project.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills and Knowledge
Ability to survey existing conditions and determine precise project scope in coordination with VA staff.
Experience in producing cost estimates and supporting contract modifications.
Proficient in evaluating materials, workmanship, and compliance with contract documents.
Ability to assess construction impacts on healthcare operations and recommend mitigation strategies.
Working knowledge of construction contract documents, technical specifications, and project drawings.
Familiarity with federal procurement and contracting guidelines.
Strong leadership, communication, and project coordination capabilities.
Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office tools.
Ability to supervise and collaborate with diverse project teams.
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited institution.
Licensure: Must be a Registered Architect (RA).
Experience: Minimum of 6 years in design and construction, with a focus on medical or government facilities preferred.
