Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Construction Manager (DoD/VA Focus) to oversee on-site infrastructure upgrades at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. This role involves close coordination with architects, engineers, contractors, and VA staff to manage schedules, ensure code compliance, and maintain quality and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
You’ll support the implementation of healthcare-related renovations and new construction in a live VA medical environment, helping bridge technical disciplines and federal project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily site inspections to monitor construction activities, document progress, and identify quality or safety issues.
  • Review and monitor project schedules to support phased construction with minimal operational disruption.
  • Provide oversight of contractor compliance with project specifications, drawings, and federal regulations.
  • Lead design evaluations and provide recommendations for technical improvements or issue resolution.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports summarizing work status, milestones, and outstanding issues.
  • Use digital tools and construction management software to track RFIs, submittals, and material inventory.
  • Support contract modifications through cost estimating and scope validation.
  • Conduct condition assessments and inspections of both clinical and administrative spaces.
  • Maintain active communication with contractors, VA staff, and A/E teams throughout all phases.
  • Ensure adherence to VA, local, state, and federal building codes and safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Skills:
  • Strong understanding of healthcare construction and operational impact mitigation strategies
  • Proven ability to interpret and evaluate construction plans, technical specifications, and drawings
  • Experience managing compliance with federal contracting and procurement standards
  • Proficiency in construction documentation, reporting, and oversight
  • Skilled in digital project tools, including Microsoft Office and construction management systems
  • Exceptional communication, coordination, and leadership capabilities
Minimum Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in design and construction — preferably in medical, government, or VA environments
