Mechanical Engineer – OBO Major Rehabilitation Project (Athens, Greece)
Position Type: Full-Time | Location: Athens, Greece Duration: 24 Months (OCONUS Assignment) Clearance Required: Final Secret (minimum) – must be able to obtain Top Secret Salary Range: $110,000 – $125,000+ (Total compensation exceeds base salary)
Position Summary: SteerBridge Strategies is hiring a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) on a major rehabilitation project in Athens, Greece. This role involves on-site mechanical engineering oversight, quality assurance, and technical coordination of systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform QA/QC oversight of mechanical installations and construction activities
Review and evaluate contractor submittals, shop drawings, and technical data
Respond to RFIs and maintain logs for submittals, inspections, and system issues
Support review and development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs)
Evaluate and verify monthly contractor pay applications
Monitor construction safety compliance (EM 385-1-1, OSHA) and adherence to international codes
Participate in system testing, troubleshooting, and final commissioning
Provide technical input on proposed changes or substitutions
Attend meetings and prepare monthly mechanical progress reports
Collaborate with the Project Director, government engineers, and contractor staff
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management from an accredited U.S. university
OR a current Professional Engineer (PE) license in lieu of a degree
Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical construction oversight
Design-only office experience does not qualify toward the 7 years
Active Final Secret clearance (or Interim Top Secret) at time of proposal submission
Ability to obtain and maintain a Final Top Secret clearance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Department of State OBO projects
Familiarity with international mechanical codes and U.S. government specifications
Previous experience working on overseas projects
Professional Engineering License, Registered Architect, or Certified Construction Manager certification
Expertise in final commissioning of HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems
