Washington, DC · Construction/Facilities

Position: Electrical Engineer
Job Type: Full-Time, Hybrid
Location(s): Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Construction and Facilities Management 425 I Street NW Washington DC 20001

Who We Are:

At SteerBridge Strategies, we are committed to driving innovation and delivering excellence for our clients. We are a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that combines expertise in consulting, design, and technology to tackle challenges and transform the future. Whether it’s modernizing infrastructure, developing cutting-edge solutions, or supporting our nation's veterans, we are dedicated to making a difference through collaboration, leadership, and precision.

Why We Need You:

Our mission to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in creating and maintaining world-class medical facilities hinges on having the right technical minds to lead and shape these critical projects. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of this endeavor—designing systems that power healthcare facilities for our nation’s heroes. The VA’s success depends on the flawless performance of electrical systems in these essential facilities. Without your expertise, these systems could falter, affecting the care and safety of veterans across the country. We need you to help us ensure that every light, every system, and every critical backup works flawlessly, allowing the VA to focus on what matters most: providing care for those who have served.

Here’s What You’ll Be Doing:

You’ll be applying your expert knowledge of electrical engineering to design, evaluate, and troubleshoot systems that are integral to large VA facilities. You will provide technical consulting and oversight on the most complex and critical electrical designs, ensuring that every facility is equipped with reliable, efficient, and safe electrical systems. In this role, you’ll collaborate with VA stakeholders, contractors, and project teams to bring long-term solutions to life, ensuring the mission-critical reliability of these systems.

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on VA facility electrical systems, including lighting, medium voltage, and emergency power systems.
  • Perform detailed reviews and provide feedback on electrical designs, reports, and contractor submittals.
  • Lead the evaluation of electrical studies such as Arc Flash, Fault-Current, and Over-Current Coordination Analysis.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop short- and long-term plans for the Electrical Studies Program.
  • Conduct site visits to VA Medical Centers (VAMCs) and ensure all electrical systems meet the highest safety and operational standards.

You Need These Qualifications:

  • You are a licensed Electrical Engineer with at least 5 years of experience designing and evaluating complex electrical systems.
  • You have an in-depth understanding of electrical engineering standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA-70E, and IEEE 242, as well as experience using SKM software.
  • You have experience managing electrical systems for large medical or mission-critical facilities (500,000 square feet or larger).
  • You are a US citizen eligible to pass a federal background check and receive a VA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) badge.
  • You are willing to travel to VA locations as needed.

It Would Be Nice If:

  • You’ve previously worked on VA or government construction projects.
  • You have hands-on experience with Arc Flash analysis, Power System Coordination, and Fault-Current studies.
  • You have a proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams, including architects and civil engineers, on large-scale projects.
  • You’ve worked with state-of-the-art electrical systems in hospitals or other mission-critical environments.
